Your help matters to us a great deal

Buckinghamshire Advertiser - - OPINION -

I AM writing to say thank you to all members of the Dying Matters Coalition and to local residents for making Dying Matters Awareness Week in May such a success.

Town halls, community groups, arts venues, hospitals, hospices, GP surgeries, care homes, law firms, banks, building societies and funeral directors were among those holding events and activities aimed at raising awareness about the importance of talking more openly about dying, death and bereavement.

With hundreds of members in the local area and 30,000 members across England and Wales, the Dying Matters Coalition is making a real difference by breaking the taboo about discussing dying, but there’s still a long way to go.

Talking more openly about dying and planning ahead may not be easy, but it can help us to make the most of life and spare our loved ones from making difficult decisions on our behalf or dealing with the fallout if we haven’t got our affairs in order.

Whether it’s through planning for your future care and support – for example through setting up a Lasting Power of Attorney – writing a will, making financial plans to ensure the people you care about are protected, recording your funeral wishes or deciding whether you would potentially want to donate your organs or tissue, talking more openly about your wishes and those of the people you care about can make a real difference.
