Gerrards Cross win championship decider

TENNIS

Buckinghamshire Advertiser - - SPORT -

GERRARDS Cross LTC’s U10 Greens are AEGON Team Tennis champions after beating title rivals Halton in an age group decider.

The pace was set early when Jacob Mellows beat old Gerrards Cross old boy Louis Basnayake in the singles seed match, with Ryan Teasdale and Zac Orr-Ewing also winning their singles.

But with a singles defeat for Sonny Dalston and losses in the doubles for Dalston and Mellows, and Orr-Ewing and Teasdale, the match finished level pegging overall.

This meant a doubles tie-breaker for the title, which Mellows and Orr-Ewing won 10-7 to give Gerrards Cross an overall 7-6 victory. The previous games have seen Gerrards Cross beat Stony Stratford 8-4, Chesham Bois 10-2 and Beaconsfield 12-0.

Meanwhile, the club will host an open day of free tennis and coaching for both children and adults at Bulls Lane this Sunday, from 2pm to 4.30pm.

No pre-booking is needed.
