Crushing defeat makes it third in a row
THAMES VALLEY CRICKET LEAGUE DIVISION ONE Chesham Wokingham 179-7 180-2 A CONTINUING loss of form saw Chesham suffer a crushing defeat by eight wickets to Wokingham on Saturday – their third in succession.
It all began so well, with Barney Atkins (70) and Matt Rance (58) opening with a century partnership, but things then went rapidly downhill and they collapsed to the inadequate total of 179-7 off 52 overs. In the field, Chesham were just as woeful and Wokingham made it home with 12 overs to spare.
James Anderson produced figures his England namesake would be proud of (4-25) as the seconds reduced Kidmore End firsts to 48-4, but Chesham then let their visitors off the hook and allowed them to set a target of 176, despite Umar Aslam weighing in with 3-50. After struggling themselves to 23-3, a fluent 39 by Graham Rance held Chesham’s innings together before tail-enders Umar and Anderson clinched a draw at 150-8.
The fourths suffered a 103-run defeat to Beaconsfield thirds, but the thirds went joint top in Division 5a after reducing Hillingdon from 82-8 to 88 all out to win by 82 runs, Mo Asuaf having earlier been undefeated on 58.
Elsewhere, Beaconsfield firsts beat Kew by 20 runs in Division One, while Scott Norwood’s century (121) saw Division 3b leaders Chenies & Latimer beat Farnham Royal by 40 runs, but Chalfont St Peter went down by three wickets to Hillingdon Manor in Division 4a.
