BRAINY youngsters took to the chess board in a tournament on Sunday.
YOUNGSTERS put their thinking skills to the test when they took part in a chess contest.
The second Gerrards Cross Chess Club Junior Chess Tournament went ahead on Sunday, June 7 at the Gerrards Cross Memorial Centre.
It was organised by the chess club and the Gerrards Cross Community Association as well as the Bucks Youth Chess Association.
A total of 90 youngsters, all aged under 18, went along to take part.
Chess club president Vassos Georgiou said: “It went fantastically well. I was very pleased with the turnout.
“We wanted to encourage chess playing. It’s a great game for young people to play.”
The top performer on the day was Will Discroll, 14, of Dr Challoner’s School.
Mr Georgiou said: “Everyone who came along did very well, and had a great day.”
