BRAINY young­sters took to the chess board in a tour­na­ment on Sun­day.

YOUNG­STERS put their think­ing skills to the test when they took part in a chess con­test.

The sec­ond Ger­rards Cross Chess Club Ju­nior Chess Tour­na­ment went ahead on Sun­day, June 7 at the Ger­rards Cross Me­mo­rial Cen­tre.

It was or­gan­ised by the chess club and the Ger­rards Cross Com­mu­nity As­so­ci­a­tion as well as the Bucks Youth Chess As­so­ci­a­tion.

A to­tal of 90 young­sters, all aged un­der 18, went along to take part.

Chess club pres­i­dent Vas­sos Ge­or­giou said: “It went fan­tas­ti­cally well. I was very pleased with the turnout.

“We wanted to en­cour­age chess play­ing. It’s a great game for young peo­ple to play.”

The top per­former on the day was Will Dis­croll, 14, of Dr Chal­loner’s School.

Mr Ge­or­giou said: “Ev­ery­one who came along did very well, and had a great day.”
