Young triathletes pull out all stops at Dorney Lake
BUDDING athletes competed in a gruelling challenge at an Olympics venue.
On Monday, pupils from Gayhurst School, in Bull Lane, Gerrards Cross, took part in an Inter-Schools Triathlon at Dorney Lake, the home of the London Olympics Rowing competition. St John’s Beaumont School and St George’s Prep Windsor also entered teams.
This event consisted of a lake swim of 200m, a 5km bike ride and a 2km run around the outside of the lake.
Gayhurst sports teacher Simon Kearns said: “The Gayhust pupils were quite far behind as the swimmers exited the water into transition, but made up ground on the cycling and run in this fantastic multisport event.”
Gayhurst pupils ended up taking first, second and third place in the under-11 event and jointly Gayhurst won the team competition.
The under-13 event was won by Gayhurst pupil Wesley Adamo and the Gayhurst U13 team came second overall.
Gayhurst School is now looking forward to its own inter-House triathlon which will take place on Thursday, June 25 at the school.
