Prize day for poster winners
ARTISTIC youngsters who won the Advertiser & Examiner Armed Forces Day poster competition have been presented with their prizes at special school assembly.
Pupils at St George’s Infant School, White Lion Road, Amersham, put on a special assembly on Tuesday for the Lord Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire, Sir Henry Aubrey-Fletcher, as he congratulated the winners of our poster competition. Seven-yearold Ava Lawrence was announced as the winner and Ilia Morrison Guthrie, six, the runner up.
The children sang hymns for Sir Henry in front of an audience, which included teachers and family members of the school children.
Sir Henry gave a talk in which he explained both his role as Lord Lieutenant and the role of Armed Forces Day. He then presented Ava and Ilia with their prizes.
Speaking after the presentation, head teacher Toby Long said: “I’m very proud. I’m very pleased that their talents have been recognised and I’m very glad to welcome Sir Henry back to the school.
“It was lovely to see all the children were able to come and be part of it.”
Sir Henry said: “It was very difficult to judge because all the entries were extremely imaginative.”
