A week­end of magic and may­hem

GIRLS AL­LOWED: Ful­mer Brown­ies con­grat­u­lat­ing Chief Guide Gill Slo­combe on be­ing made a CBE. BROWN­IES from Bucks were among 1,500 young girl guid­ing mem­bers who at­tended the UK’s only girl only fes­ti­val.

Ear­lier this month, girls from the First Ful­mer Brown­ies went along to the event, which took place at a site in Hamp­shire.

The week­end long event went ahead on June 13 and 14 and was en­ti­tled Magic and May­hem. Girls got the chance to learn magic tricks and to con­duct science ex­per­i­ments.

The young fes­ti­val go­ers then en­joyed a mass sleep­over in a gi­ant big top tent, and were also given the chance to meet chief guide Gill Slo­combe who was made a CBE in the Queen’s birth­day hon­ours list.

Group leader An­gela Hurlstone said: “They all said they had a great time and loved tak­ing part in all the won­der­ful ac­tiv­i­ties.

“Sleep­ing in a cir­cus mar­que with 600 Brown­ies and lead­ers was a new ex­pe­ri­ence for me as well as the Brown­ies.”
