Why not get fruity this summer?

Buckinghamshire Advertiser - - BUSINESS -

AS June gets ready to serve up the Wimbeldon Championships, thoughts turn to a fruity little number – the strawberry.

Synonymous with summer and the tennis championships, 142,000 portions of strawberries will be consumed during the event.

Even though you can buy strawberries all year round in supermarkets, there’s nothing quite like picking your own.

And they’re good for you too: nine strawberries give you 50% of your daily recommended vitamin C intake.

“When it comes to taste there is nothing to rival the British strawberry, especially when it is freshly picked,” said Peter Shaw, pick your own manager at Copas Farms, which has farms at Calves Farm in Billet Lane, Iver, and at Lower Mount Farm, Long Lane, Crookham.

He added: “This year customers will find the introduction of table top strawberry beds, some of which are under cover in polytunnels. So even when it is raining, you can still enjoy that just-picked taste.”
