Bucks lose double ton Smith
BUCKS CCC will be without double century hero Tom Smith for their Unicorns Counties Championship Eastern Division game against Cambridgeshire.
Smith, who scored an unbeaten 244 as Bucks chased a record 490 in the fourth innings to defeat Hertfordshire at High Wycombe in their opening Championship match last week, is required to play for parent club Gloucestershire’s second XI.
Also missing for the same reason is Gerrards Cross seamer Tom Hampton, who took four wickets in the Hertfordshire second plays seconds.
It is a double blow for Bucks, who have not only lost the services of a player who piled up a record personal score for the county side in his astonishing innings, but also that of a county stalwart, who still often turns out for Bucks, despite being snapped up by Gloucestershire last September.
Replacing them for the three- innings, and who also for Gloucestershire’s day clash at Wisbech, which starts on Sunday, will be youngsters Charlie McDonell (Horton House CC) and Archie Hammond (Dinton CC), both making a return to the Bucks squad, while Slough spinner Ali Akbar Raja is set to make his Championship debut for Bucks. Squad: M Payne (Tring), S Khan (Slough), C McDonell (Horton House), S Gumbs (Tring), D Hampton (Gerrards Cross), G Russell (High Wycombe), M Rance (Chesham), J Burden (High Wycombe), J Rance (Chesham), A Hammond (Dinton), A Akbar Raja (Slough), S Helm (Tring).
