Student puts his designs on the map

A GRAPHIC design student has created artwork that will be displayed in fire stations throughout London.

Amersham and Wycombe college student, Tom George, 18, has created a typographic map of London that will be installed in 10 new fire stations throughout the capital.

Tom said: “I love typography and produced a hand drawn typographic map of South East Asia for my final first year project.

“This inspired me to go a step further and repeat the design with a focus on London.

“I produced the artwork on computer to give it a more ordered, professional appearance.

“All of the boroughs are represented typographically and I have kept their shape and size so that the map remains accurate and to scale.

“The location of each fire station is highlighted on the 10 individual maps. It was great to see my work on the wall, it gave me a real buzz,”

The artwork came about when Tom was invited into the fire brigade’s media and design headquarters on work experience.
