Arrest after woman’s body found in layby
Investigation opens after discovery made by motorist on A413
A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman’s body was found in a layby in Gerrards Cross on Tuesday.
Police have detained a 50-year-old from Hayes in Middlesex.
As the Advertiser went to press, the woman in her 30s had not yet been identified and therefore next of kin have not been informed but a post-mortem examination was due to take place.
Police were called to the scene at 8.36am on Tuesday after reports of a body found by a passing motorist in a layby on the A413 Amersham Road.
The road was closed between the A40 Oxford Road and the roundabout with the B415 Kingsway.
Motorists were asked to avoid the area on Tuesday as police carried out their investigations.
Detectives from the Major Crime Unit are continuing to follow a number of enquiries to establish the circumstances of her death.
Supt Yvette Hitch, local policing area commander for Chiltern and South Bucks, said: “Officers are at the scene working to establish the circumstances surrounding the death of the woman.
“We are in the very early stages of our investigation and a scene watch is in place.
“I would like to speak to anyone who has any information about this incident or who may have seen anything out of the ordinary in the area. Please call 101 as soon as possible.
“Officers from the local Neighbourhood Team are making house to house enquiries and patrolling locally to provide reassurance. If anyone has any concerns, please feel free to approach an officer.”
Chris Brown, chairman of Gerrards Cross Parish Council, said: “It’s kind of a rural community.
“The only deaths we normally get are in accidents on that road.
“I’m absolutely shocked about it, I’m quite taken aback by it.
“We’re very sad to hear about it and our sympathy goes out to the relatives.”
