Ar­rest af­ter woman’s body found in layby

In­ves­ti­ga­tion opens af­ter dis­cov­ery made by mo­torist on A413

A MAN has been ar­rested on sus­pi­cion of mur­der af­ter a woman’s body was found in a layby in Ger­rards Cross on Tues­day.

Po­lice have de­tained a 50-year-old from Hayes in Mid­dle­sex.

As the Advertiser went to press, the woman in her 30s had not yet been iden­ti­fied and there­fore next of kin have not been in­formed but a post-mortem ex­am­i­na­tion was due to take place.

Po­lice were called to the scene at 8.36am on Tues­day af­ter re­ports of a body found by a pass­ing mo­torist in a layby on the A413 Amer­sham Road.

The road was closed be­tween the A40 Ox­ford Road and the round­about with the B415 Kingsway.

Mo­torists were asked to avoid the area on Tues­day as po­lice car­ried out their in­ves­ti­ga­tions.

De­tec­tives from the Ma­jor Crime Unit are con­tin­u­ing to fol­low a num­ber of en­quiries to es­tab­lish the cir­cum­stances of her death.

Supt Yvette Hitch, lo­cal polic­ing area com­man­der for Chiltern and South Bucks, said: “Of­fi­cers are at the scene work­ing to es­tab­lish the cir­cum­stances sur­round­ing the death of the woman.

“We are in the very early stages of our in­ves­ti­ga­tion and a scene watch is in place.

“I would like to speak to any­one who has any in­for­ma­tion about this in­ci­dent or who may have seen any­thing out of the or­di­nary in the area. Please call 101 as soon as pos­si­ble.

“Of­fi­cers from the lo­cal Neigh­bour­hood Team are mak­ing house to house en­quiries and pa­trolling lo­cally to pro­vide re­as­sur­ance. If any­one has any con­cerns, please feel free to ap­proach an of­fi­cer.”

Chris Brown, chair­man of Ger­rards Cross Parish Coun­cil, said: “It’s kind of a ru­ral com­mu­nity.

“The only deaths we nor­mally get are in ac­ci­dents on that road.

“I’m ab­so­lutely shocked about it, I’m quite taken aback by it.

“We’re very sad to hear about it and our sym­pa­thy goes out to the rel­a­tives.”
