HIGH STREET SAVIOUR: Mary Portas visited Bucks to raise money for the local library and charity Save the Children CHANGING the face of the nation’s shops is her usual occupation, but Mary Portas was in Chalfont St Giles last week for a different reason.
The television personality visited to talk about her new book.
‘The Queen of Shops’ spoke to an audience of around 130 people on Thursday at Chalfont St Giles Memorial Hall, in School Lane, to raise funds for the local library and charity Save the Children.
Rena Hume, one of the organisers of the event, said: “It was great fun. It was a very happy occasion and we could tell that by the look on people’s faces when they left.
“There were a lot of new people, which is always nice to see and, altogether, it was very successful. I was very pleased with it.”
She added: “So many people came afterwards and said it was a really great evening. I’m glad we did it.”
