HIGH STREET SAVIOUR: Mary Por­tas vis­ited Bucks to raise money for the lo­cal li­brary and char­ity Save the Chil­dren CHANG­ING the face of the na­tion’s shops is her usual oc­cu­pa­tion, but Mary Por­tas was in Chal­font St Giles last week for a dif­fer­ent rea­son.

The tele­vi­sion per­son­al­ity vis­ited to talk about her new book.

‘The Queen of Shops’ spoke to an au­di­ence of around 130 peo­ple on Thurs­day at Chal­font St Giles Me­mo­rial Hall, in School Lane, to raise funds for the lo­cal li­brary and char­ity Save the Chil­dren.

Rena Hume, one of the or­gan­is­ers of the event, said: “It was great fun. It was a very happy oc­ca­sion and we could tell that by the look on peo­ple’s faces when they left.

“There were a lot of new peo­ple, which is al­ways nice to see and, al­to­gether, it was very suc­cess­ful. I was very pleased with it.”

She added: “So many peo­ple came af­ter­wards and said it was a re­ally great evening. I’m glad we did it.”
