Double decker makes travel easier for cycling commuters
BICYCLE riders got a boost when new parking was introduced for them at a railway station.
Bucks County Council transport chief Mark Shaw unveiled new double stack parking at Great Missenden station on Wednesday, June 17 during National Bike Week.
The double deck rack provides 30 more cycle spaces than the 62 previously available at the station, and the £15,000 cost was met through Department of Transport funding.
Mr Shaw said: “These improvements are a real encouragement for cyclists.
“I’m delighted that between the county council, Cycle Chilterns and Chiltern Railways, we’ve been able to make it easier for cyclists to park at the station.”
Sara Randle, Cycle Chilterns representative, said the initiative had provided a good opportunity to promote the Chilterns Area of Natural Beauty as a place that is easy to get to and to enjoy without a car.
Chad Collins, head of stations at Chiltern Railways said: “Since 2011, we have worked closely with Bucks County Council, Cycle Chilterns and the British Transport Police to significantly increase the provision of cycle facilities at our stations in Bucks.”
