Out with the three Rs and in with art

YOUNG­STERS showed off their skills when their school held an art day. The event was held at Thorpe House School in Ger­rards Cross be­fore the half-term break and in­volved year two pupils mak­ing scratch art with oil pas­tels and those in year one go­ing off into the woods to gather nat­u­ral ma­te­ri­als with which to print.

Re­cep­tion chil­dren took part in mi­crowave art and nurs­ery boys cre­ated tree pic­tures with twigs gath­ered from the

CRE­ATIVE: gar­den.

Teacher Zoe Ba­gley who or­gan­ised the day, said: “Art day is a won­der­ful op­por­tu­nity for the boys to experiment with dif­fer­ent tech­niques and ma­te­ri­als and ev­ery year we try to in­tro­duce them to some­thing new and ex­cit­ing which they haven’t tried out in their nor­mal art lessons.

“As you can imag­ine, a school day ded­i­cated to art is some­thing the boys look for­ward to ev­ery year and I’m re­ally proud of how hard they all worked to pro­duce some very ex­cit­ing cre­ations.”
