Chance to try out triathlons

Gay­hurst School pupil Ed­ward Hooper about to swim the 200m swim sec­tion in the prep schools’ triathlon held in Kent YOUNG triath­letes from a Bucks school com­peted against hun­dreds of chil­dren from across the coun­try in a com­pe­ti­tion.

Pupils from Gay­hurst School, in Bull Lane, Ger­rards Cross, took part in a gru­elling triathlon in Cran­brook, Kent, on Sun­day, June 14.

The event was or­gan­ised by the In­de­pen­dent As­so­ci­a­tion of Prep Schools with hun­dreds of chil­dren tak­ing part from prep schools all over the coun­try.

Gay­hurst en­tered girls and boys in the un­der 10, un­der 11 and un­der 13 events.

The triathlon con­sisted of a 200m swim in an out­door 20m pool, a 3km cy­cle and a 2km run around the grounds of Dul­wich Prep School.

Sports teacher at Gay­hurst School Si­mon Kearns, who takes part in triathlons him­self, said: “This is a tremen­dous test of the girls’ and boys’ en­durance. They re­ally are ath­letes in the truest sense of the word.”
