MID BUCKS CRICKET LEAGUE DIVISION ONE Challoners 146 all out Little Gaddesden 103-6 THE tone was set for Challoners’ defeat to Little Gaddesden on Saturday when they lost both openers, Lawrence Chamberlain and Chris Price, for single figures with just 16 on the board.
Saqib Ali (31) managed to push the score past 50, but it was father and son Simon and Charlie Wood, putting on 50 for the sixth wicket, who really rescued the innings.
However, when they lost Charlie for 21 and Simon four runs later, things looked bleak as the next two wickets managed only six between them, and it was left to veterans Howard Chamberlain (15) and Heinz Richardson (15) to frustrate Little Gaddesden with a 30-run last wicket partnership.
The rain duly arrived at tea, making it anything but ideal conditions for the Challoners bowlers, and by the time they grabbed a couple of wickets the target had been reduced to 103.
The ever dependable Heinz Richardson (2-23) and Hasnain Ahmed (2-30) chipped in with a couple of wickets to give Challoners hope, but Little Gaddesden eased to a four-wicket win.
In the same division, the derby between Hawridge & Cholesbury and Prestwood was rained off, while in the Premier Division, Ballinger Waggoners were licking their lips after bowling out for 165 but did not get to face a single ball in reply before the heavens opened.
Elsewhere in the same division, Knotty Green bagged a first win of the season when they beat Bourne End by two wickets, while Holmer Green overcame Bradenham by three wickets.
