Close call for Chalfont

Buckinghamshire Advertiser - - SPORT -

THE battle for the highest winning rink in Chalfont St Giles Bowls Club’s 79-73 defeat to Denham on Saturday could hardly have been closer.

Chalfont had three winning triples with just one shot’s difference and two with the same number of ends won, but the top rink was eventually given to Maureen Burbridge, Dave Harding and Tim Timberlake, who won 19-18.

This was followed by a 106-66 Three Counties League defeat at Bassetsbury Manor on Sunday, where two winning rinks at least earned Chalfont four league points, the best of which was a 24-17 triumph for Nick Nicholls, Hubert Cox, Hazel Baker and Mike Alderton.

There was another Three Counties defeat earlier in the week to Amersham, where again Chalfont took four points from two winning rinks, the best being Flora Alderton, Jean Jackman, Dave Harding and John Anderson’s 27-9 triumph, but the overall scoreline was a 100-82 reverse.

The week had at least started on a winning note with a 47-41 victory over Chesham Broadway in the Chiltern & Thames League, picking up eight points to their opponents’ two.
