Delight as school’s work gets underway
Construction starts on new sixth form centre
A SCHOOL is celebrating after plans to build a major new education facility finally get underway.
Governors at St Mary’s School, Gerrards Cross, appointed construction group Jarvis to design and build the new facility which they hope to complete in the spring of 2016. The project includes replacing the existing single storey building, which was demolished about two weeks ago, with a brand new Sixth Form and learning resource centre.
Jan Wilson, the school bursar, said: “It’s going to be a lovely new sixth form centre on the top floor and on the bottom floor it’s going to be flexible learning spaces for the girls, and there’s going to be two or three classrooms which the whole school can access.”
She added: “The sixth form is a big growth area and we just wanted to improve the ICT facility at the school. It’s just a great opportunity, it’s very exciting.”
St Mary’s School, on Packhorse Road, is an independent school for girls aged four to 18 years of age.
According to Mrs Wilson everybody at the school is ‘delighted’ with the news despite the fact it’s taken a “bit longer than we hoped,” as the original application was received in July last year.
She said: “It’s been ongoing, but we’ve been consulting with the parents and teachers so
