De­light as school’s work gets un­der­way

Con­struc­tion starts on new sixth form cen­tre

A SCHOOL is cel­e­brat­ing af­ter plans to build a ma­jor new ed­u­ca­tion fa­cil­ity fi­nally get un­der­way.

Gover­nors at St Mary’s School, Ger­rards Cross, ap­pointed con­struc­tion group Jarvis to de­sign and build the new fa­cil­ity which they hope to com­plete in the spring of 2016. The pro­ject in­cludes re­plac­ing the ex­ist­ing sin­gle storey build­ing, which was de­mol­ished about two weeks ago, with a brand new Sixth Form and learn­ing re­source cen­tre.

Jan Wil­son, the school bur­sar, said: “It’s go­ing to be a lovely new sixth form cen­tre on the top floor and on the bot­tom floor it’s go­ing to be flex­i­ble learn­ing spa­ces for the girls, and there’s go­ing to be two or three class­rooms which the whole school can ac­cess.”

She added: “The sixth form is a big growth area and we just wanted to im­prove the ICT fa­cil­ity at the school. It’s just a great op­por­tu­nity, it’s very ex­cit­ing.”

St Mary’s School, on Pack­horse Road, is an in­de­pen­dent school for girls aged four to 18 years of age.

Ac­cord­ing to Mrs Wil­son ev­ery­body at the school is ‘de­lighted’ with the news de­spite the fact it’s taken a “bit longer than we hoped,” as the orig­i­nal ap­pli­ca­tion was re­ceived in July last year.
