Village fete cooks up a treat with Mary
Bake Off star revealed as Fulmer special guest
PEOPLE attending an upcoming village fete will be given the chance to meet a TV cookery star.
Mary Berry, of Great British Bake Off fame, will be the special guest at this year’s Fulmer Day, which is set to go ahead on Saturday, July 11.
The secret of who the mystery guest would be was kept under wraps for months but has now been revealed.
The annual event, which regularly attracts more than 1,000 people, will see the centre of Fulmer closed to traffic for the duration of the event, with the streets instead lined with stalls, activities and attractions.
On offer this year will be more than 60 stalls selling a variety of local produce and providing entertainment, a mini funfair, a junior Grand Prix, with children competing against each other in go karts, a treasure hunt with prizes for the winners, pony rides, a petting zoo, Zumba and dance demonstrations and a children’s fancy dress competition.
The junior Grand Prix will feature electric karts and will be open to children aged between four and 11 years of age.
Mary Berry, pictured right, will open the event at 2pm, and will then chat to visitors and enjoy the entertainment on offer.
A host of different refreshments will be on offer throughout the day, with the Black Horse pub set to provide food and drink during the event.
Moira Ellis, one of the event’s organisers, said: “We are very excited that Mary Berry will be opening our Fulmer Day this year. A wonderful day is planned and there should be something there for everyone.”
Windmill Road through the centre of Fulmer will be closed to traffic from 1pm until 2pm, but parking will be available nearby.
Admission to the event is free, and people from Fulmer and the surrounding area are encouraged to go along on the day to enjoy the fun.
