Vil­lage fete cooks up a treat with Mary

Bake Off star re­vealed as Ful­mer spe­cial guest

PEO­PLE at­tend­ing an up­com­ing vil­lage fete will be given the chance to meet a TV cook­ery star.

Mary Berry, of Great Bri­tish Bake Off fame, will be the spe­cial guest at this year’s Ful­mer Day, which is set to go ahead on Satur­day, July 11.

The se­cret of who the mys­tery guest would be was kept un­der wraps for months but has now been re­vealed.

The an­nual event, which regularly at­tracts more than 1,000 peo­ple, will see the cen­tre of Ful­mer closed to traf­fic for the du­ra­tion of the event, with the streets in­stead lined with stalls, ac­tiv­i­ties and at­trac­tions.

On of­fer this year will be more than 60 stalls selling a va­ri­ety of lo­cal pro­duce and pro­vid­ing en­ter­tain­ment, a mini fun­fair, a ju­nior Grand Prix, with chil­dren com­pet­ing against each other in go karts, a trea­sure hunt with prizes for the win­ners, pony rides, a pet­ting zoo, Zumba and dance demon­stra­tions and a chil­dren’s fancy dress com­pe­ti­tion.

The ju­nior Grand Prix will fea­ture elec­tric karts and will be open to chil­dren aged be­tween four and 11 years of age.

Mary Berry, pic­tured right, will open the event at 2pm, and will then chat to visi­tors and en­joy the en­ter­tain­ment on of­fer.

A host of dif­fer­ent re­fresh­ments will be on of­fer through­out the day, with the Black Horse pub set to pro­vide food and drink dur­ing the event.

Moira El­lis, one of the event’s or­gan­is­ers, said: “We are very ex­cited that Mary Berry will be open­ing our Ful­mer Day this year. A won­der­ful day is planned and there should be some­thing there for ev­ery­one.”

Wind­mill Road through the cen­tre of Ful­mer will be closed to traf­fic from 1pm un­til 2pm, but park­ing will be avail­able nearby.

Ad­mis­sion to the event is free, and peo­ple from Ful­mer and the sur­round­ing area are en­cour­aged to go along on the day to en­joy the fun.
