Fly­ing the flag for Armed Forces Day

Chiltern DC chair­man Cllr Mimi Harker with South Bucks Dis­trict Coun­cil chair­man Cllr Dun­can Smith and guests A DIS­TRICT coun­cil were one of the many across the county to take part in spe­cial Armed Forces Day cel­e­bra­tions last week.

Tributes to ser­vice men, women and their fam­i­lies, both past and present, were paid dur­ing a cer­e­mony at Chiltern Dis­trict Coun­cil on Mon­day June 22.

Chair­man Mimi Harker OBE wel­comed South Bucks Dis­trict Coun­cil Chair­man Dun­can Smith, rep­re­sen­ta­tives from the Royal Bri­tish Le­gion and the po­lice to the event.

She spoke of the sac­ri­fice made by cur­rent serv­ing forces’ per­son­nel, and those who have served be­fore, of the courage shown by their fam­i­lies and the ef­forts of re­servists and young cadets.

Bri­tish Le­gion rep­re­sen­ta­tives talked about the cen­te­nary of World War One, the with­drawal of forces from Afghanistan and the VE Day 70th cel­e­bra­tions be­fore read­ing the Ex­hor­ta­tion.

This was fol­lowed by a minute’s si­lence and the rais­ing of the of­fi­cial Armed Forces Day flag.
