Flying the flag for Armed Forces Day
Chiltern DC chairman Cllr Mimi Harker with South Bucks District Council chairman Cllr Duncan Smith and guests A DISTRICT council were one of the many across the county to take part in special Armed Forces Day celebrations last week.
Tributes to service men, women and their families, both past and present, were paid during a ceremony at Chiltern District Council on Monday June 22.
Chairman Mimi Harker OBE welcomed South Bucks District Council Chairman Duncan Smith, representatives from the Royal British Legion and the police to the event.
She spoke of the sacrifice made by current serving forces’ personnel, and those who have served before, of the courage shown by their families and the efforts of reservists and young cadets.
British Legion representatives talked about the centenary of World War One, the withdrawal of forces from Afghanistan and the VE Day 70th celebrations before reading the Exhortation.
This was followed by a minute’s silence and the raising of the official Armed Forces Day flag.
