Sisters rise to challenge
SKILLS : Katie (left) and Lucy Allsop SISTERS Lucy and Katie Allsop, from Hyde Heath, again showed their skills and strength at the fifth round of the Southern XC Series on Sunday.
Held at Deepcut Barracks, in Surrey, it was probably the most challenging course of the season, featuring steep drop-offs and sharp technical climbs. But the siblings, riding for local cycling club Summit MTB, rose to the challenge.
Lucy, nine, racing in the U11s category, finished almost three minutes ahead of her nearest rival, while team-mate Alex Benger, also nine, rode to a great 13th place in the U11 boys race.
Katie, five, meanwhile, claimed her second podium spot of the season, finishing third, accompanied all the way by team-mate Josh Benger, six, who finished ninth in the U9 Boys race.
William Shield, 11, from Amersham-on-the-Hill, was hoping to secure his third place overall in the series in the U13 boys race, but was thwarted by a crash mid-lap.
