Rowers set to line up against French rivals
Teenage team comes up trumps during tricky J16 trials
Proud mum Sue Lucas said: “They were absolutely spent after the first race and only had two hours to recover, during which time the wind really picked up, meaning the course for the race-off had to be reversed as it was too dangerous to have them rowing up the lake.
“The distance was also reduced from 1.5km to 1km and it took a while to start the race as it was so gusty they couldn’t get the boats straight.
“They are strong lads though and took an early lead, and although the Kings School boat came back at them, they went for it and stormed to victory by six seconds.
“They didn’t think they would have much of a chance as they have been split into different boats by their club lately and hadn’t rowed together in five weeks.”
Their winning time was 3 mins 4.2 secs, earning them the selection for the J16 match against France, which will take place at London Docklands on Sunday, July 12.
