Teen ace West helps county to triumph
BUCKS COUNTY GC
THE Bucks County Golf Ladies Association have made it to September’s national finals of an England Golf tournament, after winning their regional qualifier late on.
The Bucks ladies won five games out of five to top the Midlands South Region but despite the clean sweep, it was a tight finish at Harborne Golf Club, in Warwickshire, with Bucks claiming top spot on the last afternoon, after being stuck in second place all week.
At the centre of it all was Prestwood teenager Charlotte West, who caused a sensation in June 2014 when, as the only amateur in the competition, she saw off a field of seasoned pros to win the WPGA One-Day Series.
Day one saw Bucks beat Northamptonshire thanks to wins for West, Alice Kozlowski, Chloe Li and Thalia Kirby, in the foursomes, and for West, Kozlowski and Li in the singles.
On day two, hosts Warwickshire were seen off as Kozlowksi and West again won in the foursomes, along with Luan Skeates and Shamiso Hatchard, while Skeates and Hatchard did the business in the singles.
Day three overcome,
saw with Oxfordshire
foursomes triumphs for Skeates, Hatchard, Kirby and Li and victories in the singles for Li, Hatchard, Kozlowski and Lucy Matthews.
On day four, it was Berkshire’s turn to feel the might of the Bucks team as Li, Kirby, Kozlowki, West, Clara Leathers and Megan Dennis dominated the foursomes and West and Hatchard won the singles.
An exciting day five climax saw Bucks edge past title rivals Worcesteshire & Herefordshire, falling behind on the foursomes – despite a win for Skeates and Hatchard – but striking back in the singles with wins for Hatchard, West, Kozlowksi and Elizabeth Sweetnam.
