First steps on the road to a future career

Buckinghamshire Advertiser - - NEWS -

A SCHOOLBOY took the first steps towards a career in the media by joining the communications team at Bucks County Council for a week of work experience.

Bailey Wood, 16, of Farnham Common, who wants to be a sports reporter when he leaves school, went along to the county council’s offices in Aylesbury last week.

Bailey, a pupil at the Beaconsfield School, accompanied a media officer on an interview for a press release story, and then followed it up by tracking down a contact to try to confirm some of the facts for the article.

He said: “I enjoyed it, it was a real insight. I learnt during one job that things don’t always go to plan and that you have to plan for every scenario.

“I didn’t realise how big an organisation the council is and how many people work there, and how many departments there are.”
