Cross forced to settle for draw in searing heat
Elliot Green Aston Rowant Gerrards Cross 249-8 172-6 GERRARDS Cross were forced to settle for a draw against lowly Aston Rowant on Saturday, despite a sixwicket haul for former Shropshire spinner Elliot Green and an unbeaten halfcentury from Sam Westaway.
Rowant had the better of the morning session as they reached 113-2 at lunch, but the Cross hit back after the break as Rowant slipped to 169-7.
Richard Knudsen bowled a marathon spell of 18 overs in the searing heat, while Green took 6-82, but the Cross failed to capitalise and Rowant were let off the hook, a tail-end stand taking them to 249-8
The Cross then crashed to 43-4 in reply, before Westaway (51no) launched a salvage operation, ably assisted by Ben Lane (25), Sam Bracey (21) and Jamie Hoddle (30no).
But with the run rate gradually increasing, their hopes of victory slipped away and the match petered out into a draw.
