Drumming up excitement with percussion workshop
YOUNGSTERS banged a drum when a percussion workshop visited their school.
Thorpe House School, in Gerrards Cross, was visited by members of the Royal College of Music for a percussion workshop on Thursday, July 2.
The workshop was taken by aspiring musicians at the school and was overseen by David Hockings, head of percussion at the Royal College of Music, who is also principal percussionist
The Royal College of Music, including Tom Hollister (below) visited Thorpe House School for a percussion workshop for the BBC symphony orchestra and London Sinfonietta.
Children learned about different types of percussion instruments at the workshop and got a chance to play them.
They also learned how the different instruments fit into an orchestra and how professional players use them.
Spokesman for the school Sarah Melvin said: “We were incredibly excited to welcome the Royal College of Music.”
