Sil­ver medal for Har­ri­ers ace

CHILTERN Har­ri­ers’ James McCarthy took sil­ver in the se­nior boys’ 1500m at the English Schools’ Track and Field Cham­pi­onships, in Gateshead at the week­end.

Af­ter bronze in the in­ter-boys’ 800m three years ago, McCarthy went one bet­ter, earn­ing sec­ond place in 4.01.76.

Har­ri­ers team-mate Perkins fin­ished sec­ond

Will in his qual­i­fy­ing heat but couldn’t quite match that ef­fort in the in­ter-boys’ 1500m fi­nal, fin­ish­ing a cred­itable eighth, in 4.07.36, hav­ing missed out on the fi­nal in two pre­vi­ous ap­pear­ances.

Fel­low Har­ri­ers Han­nah Thear and Scar­lett Wa­ger-Leigh were in con­sec­u­tive heats of the in­ter- girls’ 800m, fin­ish­ing sixth in 2.18.48, and eighth, in 2.30.45, re­spec­tively.

De­spite a lack of train­ing fol­low­ing a foot op­er­a­tion, Over-55 ath­lete Sue Bree achieved a new per­sonal best of 15.26m in the ham­mer at the South­ern Women’s Track and Field League match at Erith. Lu­cia Gon­za­lez-Bohr was third in the U15 A-string long jump, with 3.56m.
