Silver medal for Harriers ace
CHILTERN Harriers’ James McCarthy took silver in the senior boys’ 1500m at the English Schools’ Track and Field Championships, in Gateshead at the weekend.
After bronze in the inter-boys’ 800m three years ago, McCarthy went one better, earning second place in 4.01.76.

Will in his qualifying heat but couldn’t quite match that effort in the inter-boys’ 1500m final, finishing a creditable eighth, in 4.07.36, having missed out on the final in two previous appearances.
Fellow Harriers Hannah Thear and Scarlett Wager-Leigh were in consecutive heats of the inter- girls’ 800m, finishing sixth in 2.18.48, and eighth, in 2.30.45, respectively.
Despite a lack of training following a foot operation, Over-55 athlete Sue Bree achieved a new personal best of 15.26m in the hammer at the Southern Women’s Track and Field League match at Erith. Lucia Gonzalez-Bohr was third in the U15 A-string long jump, with 3.56m.
