Never a dull mo­ment with Bad Girls

WEST End mu­si­cal based on a TV prison drama se­ries is com­ing to Bucks this sum­mer.

Drama group The Chal­font St Peter Play­ers are per­form­ing Bad Girls: The Mu­si­cal, an ac­tion and mu­sic-packed show based on the ITV1 se­ries Bad Girls, at the Com­mu­nity Cen­tre Gravel Hill, on July 23, 24 and 25.

The show fo­cuses on a love story that de­vel­ops be­tween wing gover­nor, He­len Stewart and charis­matic in­mate Nikki Wade.

The orig­i­nal pro­duc­tion of the mu­si­cal had its first try­out in Leeds in 2006, with the West End pro­duc­tion be­gin­ning in 2007.

The drama se­ries on which it is based ran on ITV1 from 1999 to 2006.

Steve Cub­bage, who is codi­rect­ing the mu­si­cal with Steve El­e­ment, is full of praise for the hard work of the cast and can’t wait un­til per­for­mances start.

He said: “I think the whole cast have done an amaz­ing job. We’re all look­ing for­ward to it and can’t wait to get started.”

The cast of this per­for­mance are also per­form­ing in the orig­i­nal cos­tumes from the West End show, which has given “ev­ery­body a lift”.

This is Mr Cub­bage’s first foray into di­rect­ing but it is some­thing he has en­joyed de­spite the chal­lenges as­so­ci­ated with what he de­scribed as the ‘big­gest show we have put on.’

He said: “It’s been a chal­lenge but it’s some­thing I’ve en­joyed get­ting my teeth into.”

Ac­cord­ing to Mr Cub­bage prepa­ra­tions have been go­ing well, thanks to the ef­forts of ev­ery­one in­volved. “It’s been bril­liant,” he said, and added: “The amount of hard work that peo­ple put into a show, it re­ally does de­serve an au­di­ence.

He added: “A lot of peo­ple re­ally put in a lot of hard work to make this show a suc­cess.

“The sup­port from ev­ery­body for this has been ab­so­lutely breath­tak­ing.”

He added: “It doesn’t mat­ter if peo­ple have seen the orig­i­nal TV se­ries or not, peo­ple will have fun.”
