Never a dull moment with Bad Girls
WEST End musical based on a TV prison drama series is coming to Bucks this summer.
Drama group The Chalfont St Peter Players are performing Bad Girls: The Musical, an action and music-packed show based on the ITV1 series Bad Girls, at the Community Centre Gravel Hill, on July 23, 24 and 25.
The show focuses on a love story that develops between wing governor, Helen Stewart and charismatic inmate Nikki Wade.
The original production of the musical had its first tryout in Leeds in 2006, with the West End production beginning in 2007.
The drama series on which it is based ran on ITV1 from 1999 to 2006.
Steve Cubbage, who is codirecting the musical with Steve Element, is full of praise for the hard work of the cast and can’t wait until performances start.
He said: “I think the whole cast have done an amazing job. We’re all looking forward to it and can’t wait to get started.”
The cast of this performance are also performing in the original costumes from the West End show, which has given “everybody a lift”.
This is Mr Cubbage’s first foray into directing but it is something he has enjoyed despite the challenges associated with what he described as the ‘biggest show we have put on.’
He said: “It’s been a challenge but it’s something I’ve enjoyed getting my teeth into.”
According to Mr Cubbage preparations have been going well, thanks to the efforts of everyone involved. “It’s been brilliant,” he said, and added: “The amount of hard work that people put into a show, it really does deserve an audience.
He added: “A lot of people really put in a lot of hard work to make this show a success.
“The support from everybody for this has been absolutely breathtaking.”
He added: “It doesn’t matter if people have seen the original TV series or not, people will have fun.”
