Flo­ral award pre­sented to pop­u­lar vil­lage pub

A VIL­LAGE pub is cel­e­brat­ing af­ter re­ceiv­ing an award for its hor­ti­cul­tural dis­plays.

The Rose and Crown in Stoke Poges has been handed the Most Colour­ful Pub award and given the JT Ire­land Cup by the Stoke Poges, Wex­ham and Ful­mer Hor­ti­cul­tural So­ci­ety.

Land­lady Sarah Birchill was given the tro­phy by John Ho­man, pres­i­dent emer­i­tus of the so­ci­ety in ad­vance of the group’s an­nual show, which takes place on Satur­day, July 25 at the Stoke Poges School.

The cup has been awarded each year since 1994 and is con­tested be­tween seven pubs.

Mr Ho­man said: “The Rose and Crown dis­play is mag­nif­i­cent and ex­cep­tion­ally colour­ful. Sarah has made an out­stand­ing ef­fort and the re­sult is a won­der­ful and daz­zling ad­ver­tise­ment for the pub, a must see.”

Re­ceiv­ing the cup, Sarah Birchill said: “I have to make sure the wa­ter­ing is done early and I do the dead head­ing my­self, so to win is bril­liant and make the

“We have had so many peo­ple stop and pho­to­graph the pub. It has been very en­cour­ag­ing.”

The show will start at 12.30pm, with en­trance cost­ing £3 for adults and free en­try for chil­dren. Park­ing will be avail­able for free in the Stoke Poges Recre­ation Ground op­po­site the school.

At­trac­tions on the day will in­clude a clas­sic car dis­play, plant sales and a bouncy castle.
