Pensioner berates Tesco and its customers over parking misuse
Shopper says it is difficult to drop off disabled wife because of car hazards
A PENSIONER is ‘frightened’ of returning to his favourite store after claiming he has got into arguments when he confronts people about parking in the drop-off section of the car park.
Robin Johnson, 74, of Gaviots Close, Gerrards Cross, is also disappointed with how Tesco, in Packhorse Road, has handled his complaints, which has left him feeling ‘fobbed off’.
Mr Johnson has a disabled wife which means he can only use the dropoff section of the car park when he goes there.
But often when he gets to the drop-off point he finds he cannot use it as other people have parked there which, he claims, has made the whole area a hazard as cars have to cut through traffic to get there, despite there being hardly any room to do so.
He said: “It’s dangerous. Someone nearly ran into my car.
“I just want someone to realise it’s dangerous and I’ve had enough.”
Mr Johnson is determined not to let the issue affect his opinion of the shop, which he says is his ‘favourite store’, but after speaking to staff he believes they have not taken him seriously, saying: “It’s just disgusting, I know when off.”
He added: “I enjoy my life, I just want to do without this.”
Speaking about the confrontations with members of the public, Mr Johnson said: “I just think it’s disgusting the way customers can be treated by other customers.”
He added: “I’m frightened to go in there in case I get approached by someone.”
A Tesco spokesperson said: “The area alongside
fobbed the entrance to our store is a pick up and drop off point, but it is sometimes misused by customers who leave their cars there while they shop.
“We recently put up a sign to remind our customers of this important point, and will continue to monitor the situation and do what we can to tackle the issue. We encourage our customer to continue engaging directly with the store.”
