SHOPPERS at a market are being given £2,000 worth of vouchers to spend by its traders next week as a way of saying thank you. Non-for-profit organisation Amersham and Chesham Market Traders’ Co-operative has decided to give shoppers a £5 voucher at two of its market days next week to thank them for their support over the years. At about 11am on Tuesday, July 28 in Amersham and on Wednesday, July 29 in Chesham, traders will be dishing out 200 vouchers at each market to shoppers to spend on any stall at the market, apart from the fruit ’n’ veg stall. In 2013, the traders did a similar thing but only gave out £1,000 in total. Chairman Danny Wadmore, who has had a stall at Chesham and Amersham’s markets for 31 years, said: “We’re giving away a bit more this time because we’ve got quite a bit more money in the kitty. “We were thinking what to do with it and we thought it’d be great to spend it on the customers and give something back to them. “It was popular last time so hopefully people will come down and enjoy getting something for nothing. “It’s a way of giving something back to the community because they support us throughout the year, it’s a big thank you for us.” Customers can only use the voucher on the day it is given out on one stall and no change will be given, if for example someone buys something for £4. In July 2011, market traders got together to form Amersham and Chesham Market Traders’ Co-operative, taking over the running of the market from a private company. Mr Wadmore said the markets are still thriving. He added: “It’s definitely on the up, we’re packed with traders. “We’re doing really well since we became the cooperative. All the traders seem happy and the customers seem happy too.”
