Call to help to replace club’s diverted funds
Money raised had to be used for emergency work
A YOUTH club forced to divert funds for an extension into fixing structural problems with the roof have been given a lifeline.
But the club fears for its future if it cannot recoup its original fundraising amount.
Lady Hatch, the widow of Sir David Hatch, has given Chalfont St Giles Youth Club, on Narcot Lane, a donation of £1,000.
The youth club spent two years raising £100,000 but had to divert £20,000 to repairing damage caused by a leak under the roof.
Its insurance company rejected the claim saying the damage was deemed to be ongoing and not through a ‘peril’ despite the youth club saying no evidence of the leakage was visible inside the building regular maintenance been carried out.
Speaking about her donation Lady Hatch said: “They’re a wonderful organisation and they help out so many young people in the village. It’s a place of space and sanity and fun for these young people.”
She added: “I just felt sad for them because every time they get forward they just get knocked back.”
Secretary, Sue Dorman, said they were forced to use the funds because the club could have ‘closed and never opened again’, adding that they ‘ now need to find the money again’.

She said: “This is a place where the kids can take off the mask they’ve got on and let themselves be themselves. The kids today have to wear masks and the club allows them to take them off.”
And she added that the young club members, who have done so much fundraising work for other charities, are now calling out for help from the community.
She said: “Children who are raising money for charities now need help themselves.”
