Costumes take a bow in sell off

Buckinghamshire Advertiser - - NEWS -

IT was the final curtain for hundreds of costumes as a theatre group ran out of wardrobe space. Chesham Bois Catholic Players had to sell hundreds of its costumes and retro/vintage clothing after its storage rooms at the Little Theatre by the Park, in Church Street, Chesham, were bursting at the seams with items it accumulated over its 62 years of existence.

The theatre group sold-off the items including men’s, women’s and children’s costumes, jackets, hats, accessories, coats, hats, dresses, trousers, shoes, skirts and more at a two-day sale.

The group also held a silent auction for a 1950s organza dress printed with yellow roses and an embroidered 1950s Emenson wedding dress.

Sale organiser Liz Turner said: “The whole event was really successful.

“Friday night was heaving with people and we managed to sell a lot of stock and raise money

Mrs Turner said deciding what items to put in the sale was not an easy job.

She added: “It was a very difficult task becauseuse it wasn’t just a case of thinking ‘we don’t need that’.

“I also had to think ‘could it be adapted, are we likely to do that type of show again, and would it be very difficult to replace?’”
