Page sets his sights on second Grand Prix win
Teenager hoping to follow up 2013 RideLondon victory
CYCLING STARS: Rachelle Hamsbury (left) and Charles Page (right) taking place in and around the capital this weekend and another Amersham cyclist will be taking part in one of the others.
Rachelle Hembury, of Amersham Road Cycling Club, will attempt the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100, a 100mile ride taking in the Surrey countryside and finishing in The Mall.
Completing it would be an impressive achievement for anyone, but taking her place on the start line will be extra special for Hemsbury this year after undergoing treatment for breast cancer.
She said: “I’m very excited as I’d been off my bike for so long because of my operation. This always felt like a realistic target in terms of timing, so my goal is to recover and get my fitness back in time.
“Finally getting back on my bike was a huge release for me, as the last few times I had ridden my bike before the operation I had really got quite upset. I didn’t know how long it would be before I could ride again, so getting back on the road was a very good feeling. Also, having done it last year in the rain and not being able to do the full course, hopefully I can manage that this time. That would be great on so many different levels in terms of what I’ve been through.”
Prudential RideLondon takes place on August 1 and 2, 2015.
