The geeks shall inherit the earth...
YOUNG actors will be rocking out a theatre when they perform their new show. Aylesbury Vale Youth Theatre will perform the new hit musical Loserville at The Court Theatre in Tring on Thursday, August 6 to Friday, August 8.
It is 1971. Michael Dork may be a computer geek, but he has invented something that could change the world.
He has also discovered girls: a prospect (almost) as exciting as his love of binary. With its sci-fi plot lines, ‘70s styling and high energy music, Loserville promises to be an upbeat, funny and entertaining show.
Director Rachael Brown, aged 25, from Leighton Buzzard, said: “I can’t wait to get started, it’s a brilliant show and will be a different challenge for the company, it’s exciting and risky to be putting on a brand new musical, but we know we have the talent in the company, as well as welcoming new members with open arms!”
Joey Watson-Smith, age 21, from Aylesbury, playing the lead role of Lucas, said: “When I discovered that Aylesbury Vale Youth Theatre was doing Loserville this summer I was excited. The show is funny, charming, quirky and dynamic and I can’t wait to work again with the fantastically talented cast and crew who will no doubt do the show justice.”
Fundraising co-ordinator for Aylesbury Vale Youth Theatre Bea Beard has been working hard over
the past few months, organising both a very successful quiz night and variety show, raising more than £700 to help the production.
She said: “Aylesbury Vale Youth Theatre has a tradition of putting on high quality productions and in previous years has performed The Wedding Singer, All Shook Up and the Drowsy Chaperone.
“The cast and crew will work to put everything together during a two week period, including all set building, costumes and rehearsals.
“Everything, from the administration to the stage management is run by young people, aged 16 to 25. The youngest team member will be one of the lighting crew, who turns 16 just days before the show opens.”
Tickets cost £8 to £10 and are available from www.courttheatre.co. uk, the box office on 07543 560 478 or Beechwood Fine Foods, in Frogmore Street, Tring, HP23 5AU (cash only).
