Butcher saves vital village service
A VILLAGE butcher shop has been taken over by a new owner who thinks it is vital villagers have access to such facilities.
Fisher Butchers, in Packhorse Road, Gerrards Cross, closed on Thursday August 20, but by Monday August 24 was bought by Warner Butchers, based in Chalfont St Giles.
Mark Quinn, owner of Warners, said the response to the buyout has been great.
He said: “It’s been brilliant. People keep saying that it’s so good to keep a butchers in Gerrards Cross.”
He said he was inspired to buy the shop after driving past one day and seeing the closing down sign in the window.
He was concerned to learn it was closing down as it had been a big part of the community. Purchasing the Chalfont St Giles store around six years ago, Mr Quinn decided to retain the Warner Butchers name which, he said, had been in the village for four generations. “I wanted to keep the heritage because it’s such a long, well established name,” he said. “I want to keep that in Gerrards Cross too. Fishers in their heyday had about 35 shops. They were massive.” He added: “You cant lose a butchers in Gerrards Cross. It’s such a big village it needs one.”
