Volunteers needed for Silver Sunday event
AN ARMY of volunteers is required to ensure the smooth running of an event for pensioners.
Silver Sunday, a day of fun with free activities for older people across the UK, will be held in Amersham on Sunday, October 4.
The first one in Buckinghamshire was held last year in the Polish Club, in Amersham, which was attended by 130 guests and carers.
will have a 1940s theme and Brendan O’Sullivan will be singing on the day.
Chairman of Chiltern District Council Mimi Harker, who is organising the event, said: “It is about celebrating older people in our community.
“There is so much loneliness and isolation and so many people who may not have the opportunity to go out. Loneliness and isolation can also lead to depression.”
a variety of free activities, Silver Sunday is offering people over 65 a chance to keep active in body and spirit, try new things, meet their neighbours and help to overcome loneliness.
It was launched in 2012 by The Sir Simon Milton Foundation and Westminster councillor Christabel Flights after a report discovered more than a third of people over 75 said they were lonely.
Mrs Harker added: “I hope that it will be another day of getting older people out and about and having fun.
“When I saw the grins on the faces of the people who came last year, it was worth every bit of hard work.”
Doro UK and Ireland ais sponsoring the event, but other businesses are being sought for contributions.
