Austin’s sun­flower a record-breaker

A COM­PE­TI­TION has crowned Amer­sham’s tallest sun­flower, which broke all pre­vi­ous records.

Austin Baker won Amer­sham in Bloom’s chil­dren’s sun­flower com­pe­ti­tion with his 316cm flower.

The sun­flower in sec­ond place be­longed to Mete Hal­dan of Whielden Street, which mea­sured 306cm, while Woodlands Day Nurs­ery claimed third place with a sun­flower mea­sur­ing 267cm.

Or­gan­iser Steve Catanach said: “Gar­den­ing is a healthy and in­ex­pen­sive way for chil­dren to learn and have fun at home.

“There’s some­thing mag­i­cal about gar­den­ing and kids love see­ing a tiny seed turn into some­thing so huge.”

The com­pe­ti­tion was spon­sored by the Ro­tary Club of Amer­sham.
