Rotary Club preparing for Christmas festivities
SUMMER may or may not quite be over but Christmas is surely one of the last things on people’s minds, right? Wrong.
The Rotary Club of Chesham is already preparing to welcome Father Christmas and his reindeer to the town this festive season.
The club has announced that its new and improved sleigh will be visiting even more streets around Chesham this December, thanks to the increased support of local youth and service clubs.
Children of all ages enjoy the sleigh heralding the month of December and its first outing will be Christmas in Chesham on Friday, November 27.
In addition to the sleigh, the Rotary Club of Chesham hopes to once again be providing its ever popular Santa’s Grotto in the town centre.
All groups that are understood to be taking part in this year’s float have received details of collection areas and dates from Father Christmas.
More than half have confirmed their attendance, but the Rotary Club of Chesham is keen for the remaining groups to get in touch as soon as possible.
Rotarian Tim Willens said: “I know it seems a bit early to be talking about Christmas, but if your group has yet to confirm, please do so as soon as possible so that the detailed routes can be produced and issued.
“We’re tremendously encouraged by the interest and support we’re getting from all the groups.”
The group is also calling on volunteers to tow the sleigh in December.
Mr Willens added: “During early December, when the reindeers can’t fly due to air traffic control regulations, we urgently need support from those of you who have vehicles capable of towing the sleigh and would be able to drive for us on an evening or two.”
The Chesham Annual Christmas Float Appeal, which ran for more than 40 years, was suspended in 2013 due to the old float needing to be scrapped for safety reasons.
The Rotary Club did not want to see the float cancelled again so it took over running the venture land re-built the float.
If you can help tow the sleigh this feastive season, call 01494 773 653 or email peterpauline firstname.lastname@example.org.
