Vil­lagers not shy of hav­ing fun in rain

VIL­LAGERS ral­lied to­gether to en­sure the wet weather did not dampen the spir­its at an an­nual fete. The an­nual Hawridge and Choles­bury Churches Fete took place on Bank Hol­i­day Mon­day on Choles­bury Com­mon and Choles­bury Vil­lage Hall.

One of the or­gan­is­ers Liz Green said: “De­spite the con­tin­u­ous rain the Hawridge and Choles­bury churches fete went ahead thanks to the amaz­ing sup­port of vil­lagers who ral­lied to the cause and braved the weather to pro­vide ex­tra gaze­bos and tents for the var­i­ous stalls.

“The Elles­bor­ough Sil­ver Band en­ter­tained ev­ery­one with a wide range of favourite songs from all eras. New this year was a ‘marsh­mal­low cat­a­pult’ and a Pimms and beer yent, which were both were pop­u­lar.

“Chil­dren had fun hook­ing ducks, bowl­ing, knock­ing co­conuts out of their shys, and ‘splat­ting the rat’.

“Vintage cars were on dis­play and about 40 dogs tried their luck on Temp­ta­tion Al­ley – al­ways a very amus­ing ac­tiv­ity to watch as the Labradors took far longer than other breeds to reach the fin­ish line as they stopped to eat the tempt­ing treats en route!

“The or­gan­is­ers are most grate­ful to ev­ery­one who came to sup­port the fete and es­pe­cially those who helped set up the fete and ran stalls.”

The tak­ings are be­ing counted and the pro­ceeds will be split be­tween the two churches.
