Villagers not shy of having fun in rain
VILLAGERS rallied together to ensure the wet weather did not dampen the spirits at an annual fete. The annual Hawridge and Cholesbury Churches Fete took place on Bank Holiday Monday on Cholesbury Common and Cholesbury Village Hall.
One of the organisers Liz Green said: “Despite the continuous rain the Hawridge and Cholesbury churches fete went ahead thanks to the amazing support of villagers who rallied to the cause and braved the weather to provide extra gazebos and tents for the various stalls.

“The Ellesborough Silver Band entertained everyone with a wide range of favourite songs from all eras. New this year was a ‘marshmallow catapult’ and a Pimms and beer yent, which were both were popular.
“Children had fun hooking ducks, bowling, knocking coconuts out of their shys, and ‘splatting the rat’.
“Vintage cars were on display and about 40 dogs tried their luck on Temptation Alley – always a very amusing activity to watch as the Labradors took far longer than other breeds to reach the finish line as they stopped to eat the tempting treats en route!
“The organisers are most grateful to everyone who came to support the fete and especially those who helped set up the fete and ran stalls.”
The takings are being counted and the proceeds will be split between the two churches.
