HOME COUNTIES PREMIER CRICKET LEAGUE DIVISION TWO Gerrards Cross Buckingham Town 252-9 253-3 next weekend and Finchampstead and Amersham both lose.

After choosing to bat, the Cross were in full control of the match with the score 183-1 off 34 overs, following a second wicket stand of 173 between Dan Hampton (94) and James Crosthwaite (65).

But the innings started to unravel as the Cross looked to accelerate the scoring. Crosthwaite was unfortunate to be adjudged leg before and Hampton was undone by the lack of pace in the pitch, spooning a simple catch to mid-on.

This was the sort of pitch where batsmen needed time to play themselves in, but this was a luxury the Cross could not afford. The incoming batsmen soon perished in their attempts to keep the scoreboard moving and the Cross were in danger of not batting out their 50 overs.

Sam Westaway scored a run a ball 18 though and marshalled the lower order to a final score of 252-9, which was slightly disappointing after the solid platform laid by Hampton and Crosthwaite.

Buckingham’s reply bore early similarities to the Cross’ innings, and a second wicket stand of 119 left the match evenly poised, before the next partnership plundered the remaining 74 runs off just six overs.
