Go on, give it a try
CHESHAM rugby club is gearing up for the World Cup by organising free rugby taster session to promote rugby for children and teenagers. With the Rugby World Cup due to start in just over two weeks, the club said the interest in rugby is booming.
The Minis and Juniors sections of Chesham Stags are planning to capitalise on the surge in interest by running three free ‘Try It’ sessions for youngsters aged five to 18 on successive Sundays this month for potential new players at Chiltern Hills Academy in Chartridge Lane.
The sessions, on September 6, September 13 and September 20 from 10am will feature a variety of drills designed for improving fitness and improving skills.
No experience is necessary, so both new and experienced players can attend.
Stags junior chairman Graeme Youngs said: “It does not matter if you have not played before, you’re playing for another team or if you are not sure whether you might like it or not, just come along and meet us.
“I think there will be a boom in the sport following the World Cup – it is great that there are so many opportunities within Chesham and the town is so actively involved.”
Chesham is supplying the ball teams for all the World Cup matches played in Bucks at the Milton Keynes stadium and the club has been chosen as the face of grassroots rugby campaign by billboard company JC Decaux and will be featured on billboards around the country.
Anyone who wants to take part in the taster sessions should wear sports clothing and trainers/boots. Football boots are fine.
Potential players should email email@example.com to check for availability and specific times.
The length of the sessions depend on the age group but typically last 90 minutes.
