Cross win all four rinks to take Bucks Cup
Gerrards Cross Bowls Club celebrate winning the Bucks Cup GERRARDS Cross Bowls Club have lifted the Bucks Cup win following an emphatic 79-50 victory in the final over arch rivals Bletchley Town.
The Cross won on all four rinks, with the highest score achieved by Ray Merry, David Ross and Richard Reid, while Alan Price, Tom McGuinness and George Reid, having fallen well behind, staged a remarkable comeback to take the lead again on the last end.
Steady performances by John McGuinness, Neil Farnish and Duncan Gauld, and Kirk Smith, Michael Gomme and David Simpson in the other triples, ensured the Cross were always in control.
Elsewhere, in the quarter final of the Chiltern and Thames League at Rosedale Park, the Cross easily progressed to finals day, winning comfortably on two rinks and narrowly losing the other against Eastcote. The highest winning rink was Bob Leeson, Mary Smith and Ray Merry.
They also won a mixed match against Court Park 106-96, where the top rink went to Brian Davies, Margery Kennedy and David Hall, but the ladies lost narrowly 50-44 at Amersham, where their best rink comprised Susan Oldroyd, Joyce Ludford and Helga Thorpe.
