Cross win all four rinks to take Bucks Cup

Ger­rards Cross Bowls Club celebrate win­ning the Bucks Cup GER­RARDS Cross Bowls Club have lifted the Bucks Cup win fol­low­ing an em­phatic 79-50 vic­tory in the fi­nal over arch ri­vals Bletch­ley Town.

The Cross won on all four rinks, with the high­est score achieved by Ray Merry, David Ross and Richard Reid, while Alan Price, Tom McGuin­ness and Ge­orge Reid, hav­ing fallen well be­hind, staged a re­mark­able come­back to take the lead again on the last end.

Steady per­for­mances by John McGuin­ness, Neil Far­nish and Dun­can Gauld, and Kirk Smith, Michael Gomme and David Simp­son in the other triples, en­sured the Cross were al­ways in con­trol.

Else­where, in the quar­ter fi­nal of the Chiltern and Thames League at Rosedale Park, the Cross easily pro­gressed to fi­nals day, win­ning com­fort­ably on two rinks and nar­rowly los­ing the other against East­cote. The high­est win­ning rink was Bob Leeson, Mary Smith and Ray Merry.

They also won a mixed match against Court Park 106-96, where the top rink went to Brian Davies, Margery Kennedy and David Hall, but the ladies lost nar­rowly 50-44 at Amer­sham, where their best rink com­prised Su­san Ol­droyd, Joyce Lud­ford and Helga Thorpe.
