AFTER providing high quality community care for 30 years, a dedicated nurse has been awarded a prestigious honour.

Helen Mehra, lead nurse for integrated elderly and community care at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust, has been awarded the status of Queen’s Nurse, by the Queen’s Nursing Institute, in recognition of her commitment to high standards of practice and patient care.

Having spent most of her district nursing career in the Chilterns area, Helen has become a familiar face in GP practices and the community.

Although she has spent the last three years in a leadership role, Helen still sees patients who are supported by the Amersham Adult Community Healthcare Team (ACHT).

Along with three other colleagues, Helen has also recently achieved a postgraduate qualification in healthcare

Helen and her husband, Raju, still have a home in the central Himalayas and, only this year, provided aid to communities affected by a devastating earthquake.

She said: “It’s great to be recognised for doing a job I thoroughly enjoy and am passionate about.

“I love working in the community and I also enjoy supporting my team, sharing my knowledge and experience with them and watching them develop their skills and gain in confidence.”

Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust Chief Nurse Carolyn Morrice, said: “I’m so pleased Helen has been recognised for her hard work and dedication.
