Volunteers commit to the good cause
VOLUNTEER groups gathered together for a special Chesham event. Volunteer Chesham was held on Saturday at Chesham Town Hall.
Chesham town mayor Peter Hudson said: “Chesham is built on volunteering and yet many people are unaware of the variety and sheer number of local voluntary organisations that do so much for our town.
“It was great to give people a chance to find out more about Chesham’s voluntary organisations and intelligently match people who wished to volunteer, no matter how much time they are able to commit. With so many exhibitors, there really was something for everyone.”
Around 200 people
COMMUNITY SPIRIT: (Clockwise from above) Nick Phillips gives the opening speech; Nick Phillips with mayor Peter Hudson; Christine Jones and Tina Hearnden of The Theatre Shed; Pip Mickleham, Mo Fayyaz, Mimi Harker and Peter Hudson; Sian Le Gallais, Katy Wade and Lesley Barros attended the event and Community Impact Bucks highlighted how the organisation could support volunteers.
Bex Noble, from Chesham-based Cardiomyopathy UK, said: “It was a really great day – great to see the local community and thrilled with the number of people who have volunteered.”
The hope is that Volunteer Chesham will now become an annual event championed by each new Chesham town mayor.
