The theft happened on Wednesday, August 19 in Tesco’s car park, in London Road West, Amersham, at about 12.50pm.
A 59-year-old woman had just finished loading her shopping into her vehicle, and was in the process of returning her shopping trolley to a nearby trolley rack, when she was approached by a man who asked her for directions. Whilst engaged in conversation, another person entered the woman’s car, stealing her purse which contained debit cards.
The debit cards were later used to withdraw large sums of cash.

CCTV: Thames Valley Police has released images of a man they would like to speak to in connection with a theft from a car in Tesco’s car park in London Road West station, said: “It is believed the victim was observed while paying for her shopping in store and her pin number was noted. We believe the man who spoke to the woman, asking her for directions, did so in a bid to distract her whilst his accomplice went on to steal her purse.”
He added: “I would like to remind the public that they can easily be distracted and may not even be aware of a theft until their bank informs them of fraudulent usage.”
If you are the man seen here in the CCTV images, or if you recognise this man, please get in touch with PC Roy Evans via 101 as police believe the man might have vital information about the incident.
