Council to offer home loans to the over-60s

Buckinghamshire Advertiser - - COMMUNITY -

HOMEOWNERS over 60 years of age who need to make their properties warmer and safer could be eligible for a flexible home loan from Chiltern District Council.

The Flexible Home Improvements Loan is not means tested, but applicants need to have sufficient equity in their property as the loan is secured by a legal charge, much like a mortgage.

Repayment is flexible, so homeowners may make regular monthly payments, occasional payments or no payments. The full loan, plus interest, is repaid when the property is sold or when the owners cease to live there. Improvements and repairs which will be considered under the scheme include re-roofing, re-wiring, installing double glazing, new central heating boiler, renewing gutters, installing walk-in showers, stairlift or burglar alarm.
