‘THE DAY I MET MY FOOTBALL HEROES’
Footie fan Lois on a high at Highbury
A FOOTBALL mad Beaconsfield youngster was selected at random from over 34,000 Junior Gunners to be Arsenal’s mascot at the Gunners’ 3-0 win over Manchester United
Twelve-year-old Lois Apedaile was lucky enough to meet Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger and enter Arsenal’s changing room where she met the Arsenal squad including her favourite player, Theo Walcott.
The lucky Junior Gunner then led the team onto the Emirates pitch in front of nearly 60,000 supporters, alongside captain, Per Mertesacker.
Lois described her experience in three words as: “Best day ever!”
Lois’s father, Gary Apedaile added: “Lois and her brother had a fantastic day. My daughter is very shy and was both excited and terrified of the day but all of the players she met were very sweet to her, especially Per who took great care of her on the pitch.
“The whole day made me very proud to be a member of the club I have supported since 1972.”
In addition to being in with a chance to be a matchday mascot, the Junior Gunners allows children to make new friends.
Benefits of being a member of the club include access to reduced price tickets for first team matches, as well as various events, competitions and quizzes held throughout the season.
The match is being hailed among pundits as signs that Arsenal could be on the verge of winning their first Premier League trophy since 2004.
Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil scored, with Arsenal taking a 3-0 lead in the first 20 minutes.
