Young Har­ri­ers soar in cross coun­try re­lay cham­pi­onship

CHILTERN Har­ri­ers’ young ath­letes had more au­tumn suc­cess at the South of England Cross Coun­try Re­lay Cham­pi­onships at Worm­wood Scrubs on Satur­day.

High­lights for the club were gold medals for the U13 boys, sil­ver medals for the U20 women and fastest lap ac­co­lades for An­gus Wil­liams in the U13 boys’ race and Will Perkin in the U17 men’s.

The U13 boys car­ried on the mo­men­tum of their Chiltern League vic­tory with a con­vinc­ing re­lay win. Thomas Job led from the off and brought the team home in the lead with a time of 7.14, and Alex Al­dred ex­tended the lead with 7.27 on the sec­ond leg be­fore An­gus Wil­liams achieved the fastest lap of the race (7.09) to bring the team home by a mar­gin of 26 sec­onds. The U13 girls came 14th thanks to the ef­forts of Olivia Cameron (8.17), Orla Wil­liams (8.11) and Mil­lie Hughes (8.54).

Robyn Watkins led out the U15 girls with a good run of 7.37, while So­raya Lock­wood (8.10) and Emily Alder­son (8.14) con­tin­ued the good work to clinch 11th, while in the U15 boys’ race, Tommy Davies (7.13), Cameron Reid (7.06) and Ben How­ell (7.50) com­bined to be 17th.

Hannah Mor­ton (9.02), Amy Har­ris (9.57), and Emma Bar­r­a­clough (9.34) were a clear sec­ond in the U20 women’s, while an un­der the weather Emily Ban­nis­ter’s 9.17 set up Scar­lett Wa­ger-Leigh (8.43) and Hannah Thear (8.38) to come home fifth in the U17 women’s.

Perkin came home lead­ing the field with an ex­cel­lent time of 10.17 on the tougher 3k route in the U17 men’s race, which proved to be fastest of the day, while Richard Slade ran 11.28 and Sam How­ell 11.20 to leave them sixth.

There were also some good runs on the day from the B and C teams.
