A GOLF day named after the late actor Warren Clarke, who was from Beaconsfield, has raised thousands of pounds for charity.

The Warren Clarke Memorial Golf Day was recently held at Bicester Hotel Golf and Spa in memory of the star who died last year.

It was hosted by actor Dennis Waterman, who had run the event for the past three years with Mr Clarke, raising more than £35,000 for Helen and Douglas House.

This year, £19,000 was raised for the charity, bringing the total over four years to £54.000.

Eighteen teams took part, with 54 golfers and 18 celebrities at the event last month, with players from all over the country.

Each team of three golfers were joined by a celebrity including James Bolam, Gareth Hale and Kevin Whately, as well as exsportsmen such as Luther Blissett, Steve Coppell, John Conteh and Ossie Ardiles.

The winning team from Beaconsfield were called Stadium of Light and was made-up of John Wilson, Alexander Wilson, Martin Bosley and former football manager Dave Bassett.

A picture of Mr Clarke in the BBC series Poldark was bought by Beaconsfield resident Craig Rennie, which will be displayed at Stix, Mr Clarke’s favourite wine bar in the town.

Mr Clarke’s wife Michele and daughter Georgia attended a dinner at the hotel which took place after the golf.

Mr Waterman said: “It was an amazing day and a fitting tribute to a wonderful man that we had a record number of teams and celebrities participating this year. Warren would have been delighted.

“I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who came to the golf day, who donated auction items and to our sponsors The Premier League, Cre8tive Rooms and Stix Bar.

“Without them we would not have been able to raise so much money.

“Helen and Douglas House was a charity close to Warren’s heart so I am delighted we raised so much money for them.”
